Digging in the Dirt 3 Report post Posted April 26, 2014 I planted our Iris probably 5-6 years ago, and I noticed that it doesn't flower as well as it did say two or three years ago. We gave them lots of room to grow hoping that we wouldn't have to divide them, but it sounds like it may be time to divide them? I am attaching a picture of the plants to see if everyone else thinks that it's time to divide. Sorry in advance, but I am having trouble downloading my pictures and they are coming out huge
msumary 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2014 Anytime they stop flowering, it is time to divide. Take the center out and move it elsewhere or compost it. You won't see any better bloom this spring. Optimum time to divide is July, so they have half the year to store starch and lengthen their roots to anchor themselves to hold the heavier bloom.
