drupnorth 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2013 Bush clover is common name or Lespedeza-I have the purple variety. There are no downsides to this shrub. Deer don't like it, grows in any soil, any sun or shade and no special water requirements. Planted mine a couple of months ago as a gal size and it is huge now. I live in northern michigan. I LOVE THIS PLANT!
Janet Macunovich 32 Report post Posted October 1, 2013 We love it too. Yours is gorgeous. At our Detroit Zoo garden this past weekend at the Garden By Janet & Steven, purple bush clover dividing was on the agenda so we could make more of this plant the rabbits leave alone. (Grrr, rabbits.) It was also on the list because it's a challenge -- people look at the very woody root system and figure, 'I'll just leave it there' or even if they do dig it, the woodiness makes them think it can't or shouldn't be divided. But at the zoo, Paul took the challenge and dug it out, and Phil said, 'why sure!' and sawed it into chunks... so now we have more of it!
Margaret Thele 16 Report post Posted October 14, 2013 Will be a challenge to grow this in a pot but maybe I'll try for the 2014 season...
