Your Letters 2 Report post Posted August 22, 2013 I have area of lawn between 2 homes that gets ‘double' watered by the underground sprinklers. In my lawn, this area is a lighter green and burns in the summer, doesn't look like blue grass. What causes this and what can I do about it? I was told by someone that the wrong seed was planted in that area, but that's not the case. My lawn is an older bluegrass sod lawn. Also, I have added some compost to the lawn, but was told by my fertilizer company to be careful with compost, that it is fertilizer and can burn my lawn. Is this true?If so, how much is too much? Thank you,V. Z.

Margaret Thele 16 Report post Posted August 26, 2013 You probably are getting nitrogen leaching from the soil with the overwatered grass and therefore the lighter green color. Can't say why the area is "burning" - is it turning brown or is it soft and yellow? Makes a big difference on compost burn, or if it is overwatered. Generally anything you use in the way of compost is usually of such a low fertilizer analysis that it will seldon burn. The exception might be raw poultry manure which is very high in nitrogen. I think compost might be your answer to the area...will help mitigate the watering issue and feed too.
