dlewis1962 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 We take care of our lawn, fertilize, put down the crub stuff 2 x a year. Our neighbor has horrible crubs his yard is just about gone. Is there anything we can do other than what we are doing so that we don't get his crubs? We have spoke to him about treating his lawn but because of his nationality they do not believe in taking care of lawn because it is not edible. We have contacted the city every year but nothing is done about it. Thank you...Diane
Guest dcsmith796 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 I assume you mean grubs. If he had tons of them last year and you didn't, then you're probably already doing the right stuff. Depending on what you put on each time, and when, you may even be doing more than you need to. Also, according to MSU, a healthy lawn can support up to 5 grubs per square foot so don't panic if you see a grub or two here and there. You may in fact have had the same grub population density in both lawns, but if you fertilize properly and irrigate regularly, your healthy lawn just handled them better than his stressed one. You can see MSU turfgrass science info on grubs here.
Len S. 1 Report post Posted April 13, 2012 The MSU turfgrass science link above contains an excellent compilation of grub control information. The only thing I would add is that if you follow the curative approach with Dylox or Sevin, it not only kills the grubs, it kills earthworms too. I've used the preventative approach for years with very good results. I do it every year. Grubs don't respect property lines, so you have to protect your lawn annually from invasion.
